(Mendoza, Argentina)
The illustrious Catena wine family is behind the Alamos label, which includes a Cabernet Sauvignon also available in Canada. Winemaker Lucia Vaieretti grew up in Mendoza, where her family has had vineyards for more than 40 years; she’s been part of the Alamos family for 12 years and became head winemaker in 2016.
With its jammy cherry-blackberry notes, this easy-drinking full-bodied red is mostly Malbec grapes, with a hint of Cabernet Sauvignon (six per cent) and Syrah (five per cent) in the blend. It’s a great match for burgers or, for that matter, pretty much anything that’s meaty or grilled or both. About $13.
