The Festival of the Grape takes place Sunday, Sept. 24 in Canada’s Oliver-Osoyoos wine region. If you have always dreamed of stomping grapes like they did in the old days, here’s an opportunity to make those dreams come true.
Registration is open now for your chance to stomp on stage and be named one of the 2023 Grape Stomp Champions.
“We look forward to this outrageous activity every year,” says Jennifer Busmann, Oliver Osoyoos Wine Country’s executive director. “Not only is it a ton of fun but also a great opportunity to welcome guests to our region during harvest and open their eyes to winemaking practices of the past and present.”
Space is limited to just 30 teams. Registration costs $120 per team of three and includes festival entry, souvenirs, Oliver Osoyoos Wine Country treats and wine tasting tokens. Registration closes Friday, Sept. 15.
“Teams are encouraged to wear fun and creative costumes for the stomping battle, where they will be given a barrel containing 40 pounds of grapes to stomp as quickly as they can in three minutes,” according to the news release.
“On stage and before a cheering crowd, six heats of five teams will compete throughout the day before the top six teams go head-to-head in one final competition. The top three teams with the best costumes and who can siphon off the most juice will be rewarded with prizes from Oliver Osoyoos Wine Country.”

In addition to the grape stomping competition, there will be BC wineries in attendance, as well as live music, a children’s area and a fall art show and sale. Tickets cost $40 per person and include festival entry, a commemorative wine glass and six drink tickets.
