Recipe: Fresh Paloma

I’ve had margaritas and plenty of Mexican beer. Even some pretty good Mexican wine once, a few years ago.

But until this year, I had never tried a Paloma.

I’m making up for lost time now. In fact, it may just be my favourite cocktail of the summer. It’s easy and it’s good, perfect for a hot summer day. Some versions simply call for tequila, Mexican grapefruit soda and lime juice.

This recipe, however, is slightly more complicated and perhaps even more delicious; it comes from the fab team at El Jimador.

Fresh Paloma

2 oz El Jimador Silver Tequila

1 oz lemon juice

2 oz grapefruit juice

0.5 oz agave nectar

Soda water

Pinch of salt

Grapefruit slice

Pour tequila, lemon juice, grapefruit juice and agave nectar into a shaker with ice and give it a shake. Strain into a collins glass with fresh ice, and top with soda water and a pinch of salt. Garnish with a slice of grapefruit. Serves one.
